Following the 2004 European Union elections, four parties who had stood in these elections, met to try to find a way of working together in the 2005 General Election.

Robin Tilbook & Steve Uncles from the English Democrats (130,056 Votes) Steve Radford from the Liberal Party (96,325 Votes), Graeme Leon-Smith from the Senior Citizens Party (42,861 Votes) and the late Richard Malbon Country Side Party (42,107 Votes) were involved.  The four parties met two times at the Friends House in Euston Road, London and agreed a common set of agreed principles to fight the 2005 General Election, with a view to obtaining a critical mass to obtain a National collective party political broadcast.

Agreement was reached however the National Executive from the Liberal Party threw out the plan due to some of the policies of the Countryside party. Ironically the Countryside party did not stand any candidates in the 2005 General Election so the reason for the rejection of the concept was rather hypothetical.

Although there was no formal agreement, candidates were co-ordinate to ensure that with the exception of one constituency, the English Democrats, Liberal Party and Senior Citizens Party did not stand against each other in the 2005 General Election.

Alliance for Democracy – 2010

Following the 2009 European elections, three parties who had stood in these elections, had the idea of trying to work together with other parties in the 2010 General Election.

There parties were the English Democrats, Jury Team and Popular Alliance.

The Popular Alliance, led with the preliminary work to also involve the Christian Party, United Kingdom First Party, Veritas and Alan Wood the UKIP leadership contender attending one meeting. The English Democrats also invited the Libertarian Party to join the Alliance discussions but they decided not to take part.

The first meeting took place at the Friends House, Euston London on 7 November 2009 with the 2nd meeting shortly afterwards.

Steve Uncles & Elaine Cheeseman from the English Democrats (279,801 Votes) George Hargreaves from the Christian Party (249,493 Votes) , Paul Judge from the Jury Team (75,569 Votes), Robin Page from the United Kingdom First Party (74,007 Votes) ,  Theresa Muchewicz from the Veritas Party and  Brian Buxton from the Popular Alliance were involved. The six parties met fives times in Euston & Vauxhall agreed a common set of agreed principles to fight the 2010 General Election in a co-ordinated manner, with a view to obtaining critical mass to obtain at least one  party political broadcast and also not to stand against each other.

Finally it was agreed that the Alliance for Democracy would be led by the English Democrats & Jury Team, the Christian Party and Veritas would have associate/electoral pact status to the Alliance, and United Kingdom First & Popular Alliance decided to withdraw as they would be unlikely to be fielding candidates in the 2010 General Election and were unable to contribute any time or finance to the Alliance.

The  Press Release to formally announce the Alliance for Democracy was issued by the English Democrats & Jury Team on Monday 15 February 2010.

Following the formal announcement, other political parties were invited to join the Alliance for Democracy as associates with a view to covering 350 Seats in the 2010 General Election.
